1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies when you visit aichat.rocks, contact support, download or use the AIChat application, use AI features, or participate in the network contribution service.

AIChat does not require a user account. Chat history is kept locally on your device, but messages must be transmitted for processing when you request an AI response.

2. Data controller and contact

AIChat is the service operator responsible for the processing described in this policy. Privacy requests can be sent to [email protected].

3. Data processed on the website

Website delivery and security

When the website is requested, the hosting infrastructure may process your IP address, request time, requested page, response status, browser and device information, and referrer. This is necessary to deliver the site, diagnose failures, and protect it from misuse. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Consent preferences and local storage

The website stores your consent preferences in browser local storage under aichat_consent. This allows the site to remember your selection. Where processing relies on consent, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can clear this value through your browser settings.

Downloads and release information

The download experience requests current release information from GitHub. GitHub receives technical request data such as your IP address and browser information. This processing supports secure, current downloads and is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Partner attribution

If you arrive through a partner link, AIChat may store a click identifier, source, and campaign identifier in browser local storage. When a download is attributed, these values and your public IP address may be sent to AIChat's attribution infrastructure and the relevant partner. The public IP lookup uses api.ipify.org. This processing supports attribution, fraud prevention, and partner settlement and is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Support messages

If you email support, AIChat processes your email address, message, attachments, and related correspondence to answer you. Depending on the request, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) or Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

4. Data processed by the desktop application

The application creates a random user identifier and may process the application version, source, operating-system information, consent status, update status, usage quota information, connection metadata, and a general network-quality classification. These data support service delivery, abuse prevention, updates, reliability, and network operation.

The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR where processing is necessary to provide requested features, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR for security and reliable operation, and Article 6(1)(a) GDPR where consent is requested.

5. Chat and AI processing

When you send a prompt, AIChat transmits the selected model, a random user identifier, a conversation identifier, and the relevant conversation messages to AIChat's API and the selected model provider so that a response can be generated. Providers may include services associated with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or other model providers available in the application.

AIChat does not intentionally store your chat history on its servers as a user-facing history. Your local chat history remains on your device. Server and model providers may process prompts and responses transiently for delivery, security, abuse prevention, and their own legally permitted operational purposes. Their retention practices may differ.

Do not submit secrets, account credentials, or sensitive personal data that is not necessary for your request.

6. Network contribution

After in-app consent, AIChat may use your internet connection to route third-party web traffic. To operate this feature, AIChat processes a random device identifier, application and node versions, source, IP and connection metadata, network-quality status, and routing instructions such as destination host and port. Traffic destinations and destination services also receive your public IP address as part of normal internet communication.

The application checks locally for a limited set of other bandwidth-sharing applications and converts the result into a general HIGH or LOW quality classification. The complete process list and matched process names are not transmitted by this check.

Network contribution relies on the consent you provide in the application under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You may stop participation by closing or uninstalling AIChat and may disable automatic startup through your operating system. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.

7. Data stored on your device

AIChat stores chat messages, conversation titles, model preferences, quota state, consent state, and identifiers locally on your device. Website preferences and partner-attribution values are stored in browser local storage. Local data remains until it is deleted through the application or browser, the relevant application data is removed, or storage is otherwise cleared.

8. Recipients and international transfers

Personal data may be shared with service providers only as needed for the purposes above, including:

  • hosting, network, security, and infrastructure providers;
  • AI model providers selected to generate responses;
  • GitHub for release metadata and downloads;
  • ipify for public IP lookup in partner attribution;
  • referral or distribution partners where a download is attributed; and
  • email providers used to receive and answer support requests.

Some recipients may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where required, appropriate transfer mechanisms such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses are used.

9. Retention

Local chat history and preferences remain until you delete them. Partner identifiers in browser storage are removed after successful attribution or when you clear browser data. Operational, security, attribution, and support records are retained only for as long as needed for their purpose, dispute handling, fraud prevention, or legal obligations.

AI model and infrastructure providers determine their own retention periods under their applicable terms and policies.

10. Your data protection rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, or information about your personal data. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent at any time for future processing.

Send requests to [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority responsible for your place of residence, work, or the alleged infringement.

11. Security

AIChat uses technical and organizational measures intended to protect data against unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or disclosure. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

12. Children

AIChat is not directed to children under 16. A child may use the service only with valid parental or guardian authorization where required by applicable law.

13. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the service, providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date above identifies the current version. Material changes will be communicated through the website or application where reasonably possible.
